Thread: New Minigame Idea?

    Default Wave Based Minigame!

    Okay, before I begin the main reason I believe a minigame is needed in this server. Is the main fact that there isn't very much to do once you get your skills to the levels you desire. So I've come up with a solution that I believe will work. A minigame that people would actually want to play regardless of how many are online and when there is more online. Then It'll be even more fun.

    Alright to make this minigame work I had to think of various minigame throughout Runescape and then merge the best parts of each together into one! Well not exactly the best parts however at least very important features that will be needed to make a new type of minigame.

    1. Lobby System:
    • Alright firstly this minigame needs a base. A place in which people can have access to a shop, bank, and the minigame. The perfect place is Castle Wars! This area is most likely to never get used and it even has an easy access teleport "Yannile".

    • For future use there could be dueling rings to teleport there at the location ( 2441 , 3089, 0 ).

    • This will require the doors of Yannile and Castle wars to become operational.

    • This will also require that the 3 portals in Castle Wars are renamed to [VERSUS] (Zamorak), [SOLO] (Guthix), [TEAM] (Saradomin).

    • This will also require that the bank in Castle Wars becomes functional.


    2. Player Grouping System:
    • When entering in via the [SOLO] portal. You'll automatically be placed into a game with a 15 second wait timer before wave 1 begins.

    • When entering in via the [TEAM] portal. You'll be put into a separate room which will be the Saradomin Waiting lobby for Castle Wars.

    • When entering in via the [VERSUS] portal. You'll be put into a separate room which will be the Zamorak waiting lobby for Castle Wars.

    • TEAM game modes will not begin until 2 through 4 players are available for dispatching. If there is 2 available players the game will wait 15 seconds before putting these players together. If a new player joins during this time then the timer will reset to 15 and wait again for a new player. If there is at least 4 players in the lobby then those 4 players are automatically placed in a game with a 15 second timer before wave 1 begins.

    • VERSUS game modes will not begin until 2 through 4 players are available for dispatching. If there is 2 available players the game will wait 15 seconds before putting these players together. If a new player joins the game must wait since a versus can only begin if there is 1v1 or 2v2. When an even number of players is ready the game will place the players together based on combat levels so it's as fair as possible. Once in the actual game there will be a 15 second wait timer before wave 1 begins.


    3. NPC Wave System:
    • Every wave will have a maximum of 8 NPC's spawned and a minimum of 1 NPC spawned.

    • When all of these NPC's are killed the wave ends and the drops / reward points are given.

    • There are 3 tiers of NPC's LIGHT, MEDIUM, and HEAVY WEIGHT.

    • Each tier has 16 NPC's which will last for 64 waves. Below is a list of all the different NPC's that haven been chosen for this minigame.

    4. In-Game Details:
    • The total NPC's in which will spawn are based on the Start Wave Function. So you'll have 1 through 8 NPC's at a time to defeat. This becomes more of a challenge as you move up the tiers of NPC's. When you reach wave 192 Then there will always be 8 of the toughest NPC in this minigame.

    • When each wave ends there will be a 30 second break period and a timer to show this. During this break period the End Wave function is called and will drop food / drinks randomly on the floor.

    • The waves are not endless however it's impossible to make it to Integer.MAX_VALUE waves so in theory it's endless.

    • NPC's will NOT DROP items. This is a reward based minigame not a way to earn drops. You will however still receive combat XP.

    • There will be a forfeit portal or objective of some sort similar to how Duel Arena works. This is so players can leave if needed. If you leave via Logout or Exiting the Client. Then your high-scores will not be saved however you will still be given the REWARD POINTS. Forfeiting will automatically end the game.

    • This is a completely safe minigame you can't lose items and other players can no attack you!

    • This is a multi-combat zone minigame so all players can attack the same NPC.

    • During SOLO gameplay you will always be given the bonus reward on top of the wave reward. Solo means that your the only player in the game. Your REWARD_MULTIPLIER will be 2 since solo is medium difficulty.

    • During TEAM gameplay you will only be given the bonus reward if between all players you deal the most damage. If you have the same damage dealt then the reward is sliced in half and split with all valid members. During TEAM gameplay if all your team members leave and your left alone then the game mode becomes SOLO mode. This mode is the easiest mode with a REWARD MULTIPLIER of 1.

    • During VERSUS gameplay your team is fighting to get the most damage dealt. Which ever team get's the most damage dealt not only does that player(s) get the REWARD bonus but they are the only team to get the food/drinks drop. The mode has a REWARD MULTIPLIER of 3 making this the hardest difficulty mode. During versus if all players leave except you then it becomes a SOLO mode.


    5. Reward System Details:
    • Every wave completed raises your total reward points. The formula is ((WAVE + 9) / 10) * REWARD_MULTIPLIER;

    • Bonus rewards are given to player who dealt most damage. The formula is ((WAVE + 19) / 20) * (REWARD_MULTIPLIER * 2). If there is multiple players who had the highest damage dealt then the REWARD_MULTIPLIER is not multiplied by 2.

    • In case of a disconnection of some sort reward points are added at the end of each wave so your player always has their total.

    • Versus Mode has the potential to give out the largest point reward while allowing players to group up during the waves.

    • Team Mode gives the least reward points but has no drawbacks making it the quickest game mode to complete and easiest to reach high rounds.

    • When you reach rounds 193+ you'll be given a SURVIVOR BONUS REWARD! of ((CURRENT_WAVE - 192) * REWARD_MULTIPLIER * 10). This can start yielding large amounts of points if your good enough to survive.

    • The reward point(s) can be spent on various items! Below are some options:
      • You can purchase XP in various skills. ( Maybe 3-8 Skills chosen ).
      • Various Rune Items ( Ones that aren't obtainable as well ).
      • New item(s) "Decorative Armour" All 3 types full outfits ( 12 Slots ).
      • New item(s) "Defenders" Bronze - Rune Defender.
    • Due to the fact that I can't give tell the speeds that player can receive points. There will be no recommended value for these items. The shop will have to come out a week or two later or get updated over time.


    6. Leaderboard System Details:
    • The leaderboard sign in the main lobby of Castle Wars. Will be the object in which opens the leaderboards. They boards will be placed alongside all the portals. So you can view each portals leaderboard.

    • Each leaderboard will show the top 25 players. The leaderboards are organized by the following order WAVE, TOTAL KILLS. If there are any ties the person who reached that value first maintains their position.

    • If you are not on the top 25 list. Then you can request the your high scores for SOLO, TEAM, and VERSUS from the shop owner.

    • The leaderboard screen will most likely need to be a custom screen or possibly a multiple page setup. This is because it much show a few crucial details.


      • [SOLO] Leaderboard:
        • ( Rank, Username, Highest Wave, Total Kills, Time Spent ).
      • [TEAM] Leaderboard:
        • ( Rank, Total Members, Highest Wave, Time Spent ).
          • Group Member A, Total Kills
          • Group Member B, Total Kills
          • Group Member C, Total Kills
          • Group Member D, Total Kills
      • [VERSUS] Leaderboard:
        • Unsure how this leaderboard should work at the moment.



    7. Wave Begin/End Formula:

    Wave Spawn Formula - This allows NPC's to spawn in amounts of 2, 4, 6 and 8. Depending on current wave. This also allows drops to be given in amounts of 1 through 16. Depending on current wave. Starting with vials of (1) and the food dropped will be herring / sardine to begin.

    New minigames are definitely needed. I think, like Digi said, it's a great way to bring in players and/or keep the current ones playing.

    I mostly would just like to see a competitive leaderboard minigame. I thought the above would be very simple to add and I even posted the spawn, rewarding, and drop systems setup. Along with all the required details for the minigame.

    This would differ from the PK Arena because that's a leaderboard that new players will never be able to reach unless those players decide to quit. So there isn't much reason to attempt those leaderboards.

    Maybe if the PK Arena was a weekly high-scores system instead of overall people might try it out a bit more. So they can stay on the top you see?

    The PK Arena leader board gets fucked up all the time.

    This game needs more coders. That's what it gets down to. Coding is just a hobby for Ben, and he doesn't allow anyone else to help him code.

    Alright, revamped the whole layout of the thread.

    Rewrote the entire thing so it's more organized and easier to understand.

    Added / Removed various details.

    I've also add some ideas for possible shop items.

    Purchasable XP like in Soul Wars,
    Decorative Armour as high level prizes.
    Various Rune Items which can be high-alchemy'd for cash.

    If there is any other items you'd like to see in the shop please do post your suggestions!

    There will need to be more edits to how the VERSUS mode works as I've come across a view complications so that'll be receiving some edits in the future as well.

    Other then that if anyone has further suggestions i'd love to hear them!

    Sounds cool, if Defenders were added this would be a neat method of obtaining them.

    Defender's does sound like a cool add on maybe even a possible twist could be added for now I've included it as a shop item. If you have any adds on possible on how the defenders could be earned that would be awesome. Maybe even could make it an npc drop during the minigame and you can only earn 1 at a time to get a new one you'll need to do the minigame again. Then you'll earn a new defender based on the current one in your inventory maybe? Then make this item non-tradable as it would be really stupid for this to be tradable.

    So like if you go in with a mithril defender you'll have a chance to earn an adamant defender. Hell could even make it where you can only earn certain defenders when you have reached a certain wave in this minigame to make it more challenging or maybe depending on the item it'll have a better chance at dropping the further you make it in.

    Anymore suggestions?
